Giuliani.

What makes anybody think this has anything to do with what the people want or care about?

Huckabee.

He's the biggest religious loon among them, and doesn't have much baggage.

He also represents the most backwards part of the nation.

They are all duds as far as I am concerned. Does anyone out there see Judy Nathan as First Lady? Or Fred Thompson's wife? Trying to pick anyone from among these guys is like looking at a bunch of rotten bananas and trying to decide if you really could eat one. Yuck!!!! They all spew out the Bush mantra.
I'll pick Huckabee, just to play the game. He appeals to the Fundamentalist base. They still have a lot of power and money.

The Republican Party is a coalition of various groups. One of their most important members is the religious right. Mike Huckabee has their ringing endorsement. Where ever he runs, they will vote for him because he said,

"I didn't get into politics because I thought government had a better answer. I got into politics because I knew government didn't have the real answers, that the real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives."

Unless one of the other candidates can cobble together a good block of voters, Huckabee will manage to win 2 out of the first 4 contests. Once he wins that second contest, he will be viewed as inevitable.

Blessed by the mantle of inevitability and 99 and 44/100ths approved by God, he will go on to win the Nomination.

Then he will look for a running mate who has good, far right wing nut credentials. So I am predicting a Huckabee/Hunter ticket in the general election.

Okay, I'll play.

I really like Steve's logic because they have terrible choices. Who is the lesser evil? The evangelicals have fallen for Huck but the real movers and shakers in the party want Mit or Rudy, the yound R's seem to like Paul but even Fred ain't ridin' Fred.
They could very well fall back on the old 'devil ya know' McCain.

But, just to be different, I'm going to guess that Rudy twists enough arms and breaks enough kneecaps to knock out Huck and Mit. Fred rides off into the sunset and McCain is swiftboated by the oil snakes and torture guys. Rudy is left standing. America's mayor, America's tough guy gets the nod. The R's will hold their noses and repeat over and over again, 9/11, 9/11 until they feel better about voting for a nutjob.

Or maybe they'll rebel at the convention and draft Jeb!

Jay Leno quote I read somewhere:
" A recent GOP poll shows that "none of the above" is leading in the primaries. Rudy Guiliani came in third, right behind "Oh, Lord, not him".
