I will be 30 years old in October, and am (finally) looking into going to grad school and growing up and getting a "real" job. I've mainly been kicking around ideas of going into fields related to politics in some way - law school, poli sci, history, etc. But the more I read this website, the more I am convinced that my true path lies in education. I want to teach college kids like Zach the truth - what's really going on in our world. Not proselytize, but teach. Knowledge IS power...
I remember not long after the 2000 election, and again after 9-11TM, getting very aggitated and numerous times wondering aloud, "Didn't anybody take a fucking Civics class?" How could people be so... so blind, and so stupid? I want to fight these people. I WILL fight these people. At this point, as I have extremely limited means to do so, one of the best ways I feel I can do this is to teach others. Teach others to THINK. To think for themselves and to think analytically and critically and not just swallow whatever it is they are spoon-fed by the government, by the media, by the clergy... And to be passionate about the things that affect our lives so much. We have been taught to avoid politics, taught that it's boring, taught not to vote, taught to believe whatever we hear on the news, taught not to participate. It is time to unlearn. I want to be a force for knowledge to help kids learn to unlearn.
Young people who have the ability to think this way have power. The only way that we, the people are ever going to take the power back without resorting to a violent class war is through knowledge and awareness and a passion for truth and justice.
And if all that fails... I will fight.
