But my God, did that man have style.

far away from the "Hot Shots II" style president today...

Now, make no mistake, that’s damn small compensation for everything else age does to you, including dimming those very same memories, but it does at least give you that.

There was only the sky

you can feel the infinity

thanks, Steven, for chasing after the stars...

i know how mighty the stars are - how they can calm and comfort you with simply their existence - i never miss the Perseids (as long as there are no clouds)...

Chuck

now I feel worse. Nostalgia can do that sometimes.

just watch the stars...

O.K. back on message to mountains and light pollution. Many years ago, I would guess about 20, my hiking buddy & I went up the North-West face of Mt. Ranier to about the 10,000 ft level. There is an outcropping there that, I think, is called Observation Rock, or something like that. It would have been about noon on a Saturday and as we sat there we could see Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia, each city about 30 miles from each other going North to South. What made it so memorable was that the drive to the mountain was a bright sunny morning and the sky was clear for the whole way. Or so it seemed. Looking down on those cities we looke through a brown haze that was air pollution.
Now, as I look west out my back door, There is so much light and air pollution from town, 10 miles away, that I don't even bother to take out the telescope.

Great read (said the man in northern Colorado)! A little correction though...I'm pretty sure Steve drove west out of Greeley, through Loveland, to Estes Park 33 years ago. That, or he doubled back to try to lose the feds hot on his pinko-commie tail.

Steve responds: East out of Greeley -- Lord. Thanks, I fixed it!
