Rove and Gingrich and DeLay, oh my!
If you have a little time (it’s in the New Yorker so it will take a little time) you should read Jeffrey Goldberg’s piece, “Party Unfaithful.” It looks at the current unraveling of the GOP as seen through the eyes of three of its more tarnished knights in shining armor — Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay.
What I find fascinating about this article is how obvious it seems that out of the three, Gingrich, the moral and ethical misfit he is notwithstanding, is the only one who even begins to have a clue. We always knew that DeLay was just a two-bit enforcer while he was in office, but I’m beginning to wonder whether “Bush’s Brain” himself is also little more than a small minded thug, with all of the supposed political genius actually consisting of just a wheelbarrow full of cash, a willingness to play very dirty and a lot of luck — luck, God willing, that has finally run out.

Having found a read the article, the whole thing reminds me of the Abusive Drunk who when confronted with his wifes bruises and broken bones, cries piteously and Promises never to do it again, gets kicked out of the house and then days later comes back swearing to never again be an abusive drunk.
Only when things are back to “normal” the whole cycle starts all over again.
Even now many Democrats are acting like the nightmare is over, that Habeas is still the law of the land, that the Gang Of Pirates are have the same goals as Democrats, just different ideas as to the best way to get there. That all the research about SDO’s and RWA’s and Double Highs has no political meaning. And that all the shattered furniture, broken Foundations, and maxed out credit cards, and with the onset of winter is all just a mess and inconvienence, that will be as good as new as soon as we can straighten up a bit.
I used to think it was just Republicans that had a Reality problem.

DeLay and Rove belong in prison, NOW! They are, indeed, thugs: vicious, arrogant, degenerate thugs. Whenever I see pictures of them, I feel queasy in my stomach. The only good thing they have done is to poison their own well. Since the Republican Party still venerates them and offers them credibility, the whole lot of right-wing rats can sink with garbage barge in the oncoming storm. Liars, torturers, demagogues , every one. These are the people that define the Bush Administration. Avaricious asses like Grover Norquist. Barbarians like Bolton. Suck-ups like Rice. Newt Gingrich was the tip of the iceberg. Rome had Nero. The U.S. has George W. Bush.
