I am reminded that a pastor in a youth group I was in a long time gave a good example of how one can make a point by quoting the Bible:
The Bible says, “And Judas went out and he hanged himself.” The Bible also says, “Go thou, and do likewise.” The Bible also says, “What thou doest, do quickly.”

I once shocked the Rector of our Episcopal Church when I told him that I thought the Jewish people should be honored for helping crucify Jesus because they fulfilled “the prophecy” and, thus, allowed the resurrection to take place. A few days after that exchange we had coffee together and he told me that my position represented “sophisticated theological thinking”. In other words, questioning was a good thing. He was one of my favorite ministers and that conversation initiated a long and intellectually rewarding relationship.
A little open-minded discussion vis-a-vis religion goes a long, long way.
