A one way pass to hell

I don’t believe in hell, but if there is one, I’ll guarantee you that anyone who opposes giving vaccinations to protect girls from one day developing cervical cancer because they think that doing so “would condone premarital sex,” will earn that person a one way pass there.  In fact, I’m not so certain that God may not create a hell for just such people.

(S)he may well have to, because the curent one, if it exists, is sure filling up fast with the same kind of people, those who would deny abortions to rape and incest victims, condoms to potential HIV/AIDS victims, or any rights at all to gays and lesbians.

I am sad to say, Steve, those who oppose this will come crawling out of the woodwork, howling their heads off: Lots of fundamentalist Christians, assorted cranks and crackpots, and a horde of the same folks who oppose fluoride in the water. I know a family in Lafayette who refuse to have their children vaccinated because of religious zealotry. These poor kids not only risk getting diptheria, pertussis, and tetanus (real threats again these days); but measles, mumps and TB. Polio is a longshot, but who knows. There are thousands of these children around the country. They are homeschooled, and dont have to produce vaccination records. They are one big host waiting to be infected and then infect others. There has already been a measles outbreak in Indiana due to this travesty. I think the parents should not be allowed to threaten public health this way; but the ignorant have prevailed.
I call this the ostrich syndrome. The Bush Administration has allowed it to reach its zenith.

Molly would be pleased at Governor Goodhair’s action!
(of course, then she would remind us that Goodhair will probably be getting a little kickback from Merck for his trouble.)

The crazy Christians will scream their little heads off and the rest of us will shake our heads at their narrow-minded idiocy. Funny how we tolerate the crazies and their inability to change or grow, but they judge and condemn every one of us as if tolerance were a sin and empathy a weakness.

I think the lizzard brains have had their day. The issues of war and global warming so outweigh their adversions to sex and diversity that they will be left behind. We have urgent issues to discuss and their absence from the real debates won’t be a great loss. Their extreme small minds are only an impediment to the real job we face of caring for each other, our kids and our planet.
