Now he tells us! Donald Rumsfeld apparently wants critics of the Iraq War to shut up.
(AP) Rumsfeld tells war critics to ‘back off’
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Thursday that critics should “just back off” on demands for deadlines in Iraq and that it is difficult to predict when Iraqis will resume control of their country.
I just wish he’d told us this earlier so we could have quieted down more quickly. I hate being tardy in carrying out orders.

As quoted in the linked artlcle, Rummy said “You ought to just back off, take a look at it, relax, understand that it’s complicated, it’s difficult,” Rumsfeld said regarding deadlines. “Honorable people are working on these things together. There isn’t any daylight between them.”
Take a look at it and relax. Passively observe, but STFU bacause we, unlike you, know that it’s complicated and difficult and we, unlike you, are honorable people. So the majority of Americans (and Iraquis) are stupid and ignoble, in the always-humble opinion of Rummy and his ilk, and have no right to challenge him or demand answers about where we are really headed in Iraq and how long it will take to get there. Jesus f***ing Christ. November 7 can’t get here fast enough.

The authoritarian mindset. The mindset of a tyrant.

Just like the fundamentalist preacher or fundamentalist Christian who says we should not question anything in the Bible, because the Bible was inspired by God in his infinite wisdom. Accept it that people who miss out on accepting Jesus Christ in this lifetime are going to go to hell. The same with people of religions other than Christianity because they happen to guess wrong. God’s ways are higher than our ways, and are past finding out. Our duty is to win people to Christ in this lifetime, and not question God or his ways.
Or like the abusive parent who says that what he/she is saying or doing is for the child’s own good, and is done with good intentions, and remember all the good things the parent has done. (My father said those things many times.)

Rummy has hit a new low in callousness and total lack of compassion, if he ever had any. On tonights NBC Nightly News, during a press conference, he told us all to “relax” about Iraq. Excuse me, Mr. Rumsfeld, did I hear that correctly! Relax! Tell that to the parents of all the servicemen and women who have died in the Iraqi Inferno. Tell that to the wives and husbands who have lost their spouses. Tell that to the children who have lost their parent. Tell that to family members and friends who will never see their loved one again. Tell them, you insufferably arrogant man, that they should relax. And while you are at it, tell the Iraqi people to relax, while they contemplate the destruction of their society, the loss of life in the thousands, the daily routine of fear and deprivation. You go ahead and tell them to relax. You sit in comfortable surroundings, financially very secure, catered to by your syncophants and flunkies, and you dare to tell the rest of us to relax. Billions are going down a rat hole in Iraq. Billions that should have been spent on genuinely fighting the war on terrorism; on health care for the millions of uninsured; on education for our children; on more police and fire protection; on a clean and healthy environment; on righting the increasing disparity between rich and poor; and you ask us to relax while more billions are wasted. Mr. Rumsfeld, never have I heard a man speak with such a complete lack of sensitivity and cognizance of the real world around him, other than George W. Bush and Richard Cheney. No wonder the three of you are joined at the hip. You are devoid of humanity. To relax would mean to give in to the worst administration in history, as it leads us over a cliff. No thanks, Mr. Secretary, I dont believe I find that relaxing.
This is the response I wrote to Newsdissector, after listening to Rumsfeld talk down to the rest of us. I will share it here, as well. The ghastly temerity of this man always astounds me. His lack of competence has caused untold suffering, and he dares to ignore that and tell the public to “relax.” Then, we have Cheney and Bush telling us they didnt say what they said. I am sure the United States has fools aplenty. After all, they voted for these demagogues twice. Nevertheless, you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. I was never fooled by these charlatans, and I thoroughly denounce their contention that everyone is an idiot but them. As far as I am concerned, they can stick a sock in it. We owe them no respect.

Larry the Red, MikeH
exactly
that’s how Aristocracy argueed since the invention of the Pharao - if you allow elites to permanently exist, to think for you, to decide for you, you inevitably allow them to rule you and to command obedience from you - and then, nothing can stop them: they become parasitic. Always.
It’s all about the ability to stay in touch with reality - but elites lose that touch, always, because of the buffer zone, elites can create around them to protect them from paying the price for the own mistakes.
(At least as long as they have someone to enslave and to pay for them)
lamzy
and “george, dick and friends” also prove the inbreeding-effect of a small population (substructure) like a parasitic elite
(At least as long as they have someone to enslave and to pay for them)

Larkrise
know the movie “Johnny Got His Gun”?
More than 3,000 American soldiers have suffered brain damage in Afghanistan and Iraq….
Many of the soldiers affected haven’t just suffered brain damage. They’ve also been mutilated so badly or have have suffered so many severe burns that the term “polytrauma” has become a common one for military doctors.
The number of soldiers with these types of mulitple injuries is so high that US government had to create four so-called “polytrauma rehabilitation centers” last year — in Palo Alto, California; Tampa, Florida; Richmond, Virgina; and Minneapolis, Minnesota. There, the “latest generation of America’s heroes” — as the injured soldiers are called in a statement issued to their relatives — is shielded from the public.

WTHR, Channel13 News Indianapolis, had a segment about a young man, husband and father, who lost much of his face, his vision, and damage to his hands and arms. It was deeply distressing to see how much this soldier had suffered. He faced innumerable reconstructive surgeries and a life of permanent disability. His family, of course, was just glad to have him alive and back in the States. Thousands of of sevicemen and women have these kind of bomb injuries. Yet, Bush and Congress want to make cuts in their benefits. There is NO quality of mercy in the Bush Administration. I cannot understand why any veteran would want to vote Republican.I know my brother would never consider it. It is a sign of grievous disrespect to our servicemen and women.
